Role Overview
-Carry out installation and assembly activities for GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) substations in accordance with approved drawings, manufacturer procedures, and project specifications. -Perform installation of GIS equipment and associated electrical systems under the supervision of the Site Engineer/Construction Manager. -Assist in the installation, alignment, and assembly of GIS switchgear modules, circuit breakers, disconnectors/isolators, earthing switches, busbars, CTs, VTs/CVTs, and other associated equipment. -Carry out installation of electrical equipment including transformers, reactors, panels, control and protection panels, battery chargers, DC systems, AC distribution boards, and auxiliary systems, as applicable. -Perform cable laying, dressing, glanding, termination, and connection activities as per approved drawings and specifications. -Install and connect control, protection, metering, and auxiliary circuits. -Carry out equipment earthing and bonding works and ensure proper installation as per project requirements. -Assist with GIS busbar assembly, enclosure assembly, flange connections, and associated installation activities in accordance with manufacturer instructions. -Maintain proper cleanliness and handling procedures during GIS installation to prevent contamination and damage to equipment. -Assist in pre-commissioning activities, including continuity checks, insulation resistance testing, functional checks, and point-to-point verification. -Support testing and commissioning teams during electrical equipment testing and energization activities. -Read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLD), schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, layout drawings, termination drawings, and installation drawings. -Identify installation issues and report technical problems to the Site Engineer or Supervisor. -Coordinate with other installation teams to ensure proper sequencing of electrical works. -Ensure all installation activities are completed according to approved method statements, ITPs, drawings, manufacturer recommendations, and client specifications. -Follow all project HSE requirements, electrical safety procedures, and permit-to-work systems. -Maintain proper tools, equipment, and installation materials and ensure safe working practices at site. -Support inspection activities with QA/QC teams and rectify any installation-related observations or punch-list items. -Assist with final inspection, punch-list clearance, testing, commissioning, and project handover. Requirements Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in substation electrical installation. Proven experience in GIS Substation installation and assembly. Good practical knowledge of GIS equipment and associated electrical systems. Experience with high-voltage substations, preferably 132kV, 220kV, 400kV or similar. Ability to read and understand SLDs, electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, termination drawings, and equipment layouts. Experience in cable termination, electrical equipment installation, earthing, control wiring, and auxiliary systems. Knowledge of GIS manufacturer installation procedures is an advantage. Experience working with major utility/client standards and requirements is preferred. Gulf experience is highly preferred. Strong awareness of electrical safety and site HSE requirements. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary construction and commissioning team.
